Rebuilders and ATC Create a Win Win Situation! Salvage Phenolic Pistons by using the Newly Designed
ATC # H-101 Boot Retaining Ring
Rebuilders have informed us that they have been scrapping functional phenolic pistons because of Caliper Boot Retaining Ring problems.
The Piston P/N's are as follows:
BBP& IBI 7508 & 7533 <> ATL P519 <> NAPA <> 85019 <> Bendix 90019.
The problems are as follows:
The O.E.M. Boot Retaining Ring is exposed to the weather, water and road salt. They rust, corrode and become bent and distorted. When disassembling the caliper for rebuilding, the retaining ring scrapes and chips the phenolic piston, damaging the surface where a new ring would be installed. Now you have a scored piston and one ugly, rusted, corroded, and bent retaining ring. Even if you can salvage the ring and reassemble it onto the piston it will look "Inferior". At ATC we call it a P.O.S.
Here are the options:
1 <> Buy a new O.E.M. Retaining Ring <> P.S. they are not available.
2<> If they were available they would not press on because the ring would not be able to get a good grip on the chipped and erroded areas.
3 <> Buy a new Piston & Ring @ $ 2.00 to $ 3.00 eachwere
4 <> Buy ATC’s H-101 Retaining Ring for $.50 and salvage the piston allowing a savings of $1.50 to $2.50 per Caliper. We both go home happy.
